Need more sleep

#1

I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. However, even with the CPAP machine, I only sleep 5-6 hours per sleep cycle. What can I do to get the necessary sleep for good health. I have already been through depression brought on by exhaustion and I really do not want to do that again. I will be happy to hear any suggestions you all might have. Thanks.

What brand of CPAP machine do you have? What kind of mask are you using? I have a Resmed machine that syncs with their MyAir App. This allowed me to discover that my mask was leaking. I heard about using a ResMed Gecko Nasal Pad and this brought my mask leaks below 5 L/min. Also, it stopped the soreness on the top of my nose. I now can sleep 7 hours a night and my Events Per Hour is less than 1. In order to achieve these results I also had to change my mask to a ResMed AirFit N20. With a good fit and less mask leakage, you should be able to sleep longer. I went from 5 hours a night to 7 hours. It’s a process, but the MyAir App really helps me understand what corrections I need to make to achieve better results. My sleep doctor allowed me to try several masks for about a month each. I even tried a full face mask and one with nasal pillows. My AirFit N20 is fantastic.

I would recommend reading the articles and Professor Steven Park’s website. I have gone through most of the articles and found 4 or 5 things to do that improved my response to CPAP.

Dr. Park, a medical doctor, also had a very good podcast:

I use iTunes to listen to the podcast.

Best wishes for better sleep to you,
